TECHNOLOGIES
To ensure that digital content remains in a safeguarded environment, it must be protected during content delivery, rendering, and storage. 4C Entity has developed technology solutions to provide a comprehensive and renewable method for the protected exchange of content via storage on removable, recordable and pre-recorded media.
The CPRM/CPPM Specification defines a renewable cryptographic method for protecting entertainment content when recorded on physical media. The types of physical media supported include, but are not limited to, recordable DVD media and Flash memory such as Secure Digital (SD) Memory Cards and Secure CompactFlash.
Among the many products that can benefit from CPRM/CPPM support are:
- PC-based DVD burning and DVD player applications
- DVD players, including
- stand-alone players
- portable DVD players
- DVD/VCR combinations and
- in-car entertainment systems
Playback of protected content can be enabled in:
- portable media players
- MP3 players
- cell phones
- other handheld devices that support SD Flash
The CPRM/CPPM technology solution provides a single, renewable, standards-based content protection scheme that can support applications and devices manufactured by an ecosystem of different vendors. Unlike proprietary, vertical content protection standards, CPRM/CPPM will allow a wide variety of content from different sources to be securely stored and subsequently rendered on a range of digital devices from different manufacturers. This allows the ecosystem to support one horizontal content protection scheme instead of numerous vertical, proprietary schemes, thus lowering requirements and cost.
